About Waterfront
For waterfront property, there is no better place than Citrus County. Not only is it abundant, but offers some of the most beautiful views in the state. Seven major waterways flow through the county, including several rivers and a chain of freshwater lakes. The western portion of the county harbors the Homosassa and Crystal Rivers. The Rainbow River is located in the northern portion of the county. This river is also spring-fed and popular with swimmers who enjoy the 72-degree year-round temperatures. Utilizing various floating devices, they float down the river, allowing the gentle current to carry them downstream.
In the eastern part of the county, the Lake Tsala Apopka chain peppers the landscape with picturesque properties. Big Lake Henderson is especially unique and is great for bass fishing. Condos and houses line the banks of Gospel Island and Pritchard Island, the primary land bodies that surround the lake. Comprised of 50 smaller lakes, the main pools are the Inverness Pool, the Hernando Pool, and the Floral City Pool.
The Withlacoochee River also runs through this area of the county. The dark waters are excellent for a quiet day of fishing or swimming. It is also a great way to observe various wildlife that traverse to these banks for food and water. Great bue herons, Florida alligators, osprey, various fish, and other birds are just some of the wildlife one can expect to glimpse.
